DEFC to make archaeological films with National Museum of Iran

Iran’s Documentary and Experimental Film Center (DEFC) and the National Museum of Iran have discussed plans to cooperate on making archaeological documentaries.

The DEFC director Mohammad Hamidi-Moqaddam and the director of the museum, Jebraeel Nokandeh, met on Tuesday to discuss the plans.

Nokandeh expressed his appreciation to the filmmakers of the centers for their special attention to archeological issues and the protection of the country’s ancient sites.

He also pointed to some documentaries made about Iran’s archaeological issues and urged the filmmakers to help raise public awareness of the cultural heritage by their productions.

The museum director said the National Museum of Iran, as the most specialized museum for archeological findings in the country, is ready to collaborate with the center in any documentary project on cultural heritage.

Hamidi-Moqaddam emphasized the need for assistance from specialized organizations in the production of scientific documentaries, and said such an approach may generate suitable results.

Both officials agreed on signing a memorandum of understanding to expand the mutual cooperation.

The DEFC director and a number of his colleagues also paid a visit to the artifacts on display at the museum.

The National Museum of Iran in Tehran encompasses two complexes: the Museum of Ancient Iran and the Museum of Islamic Archaeology and Art of Iran. The institution opened in 1937 and 1972, respectively.

The institution hosts historical monuments and Iranian antiquities, including pottery vessels, metal objects, textile remains, and some rare books and coins. It also includes a number of research departments, categorized by different historical periods and archaeological topics.
